This book was written by John Steinbeck. The introduction and notes, however, were written by Robert Demott. This book is in third person, but it is the type of third person where you get to know everyone's thoughts and things like that which I believe is called third person omniscient. It's nice to know what is going on from other people's eyes and things so whenever someone writes in this kind of form I tend to like it. It seems a lot of people think that, though. Even though I like it when books do that, I think I tend to like first person more for some reason.
I feel like the author knew the importance of family while writing this famous book. The Joad family sticks together through thick an thin. They at least try to be optimistic. I love it that they can do that even though this is one of the hardest things people have to deal with. Maybe my family should learn a thing or two about that... You'll always have your family around so you have to learn to appreciate them and love them until they are gone. Even when they are gone, you must keep them in your hearts. Oh gosh, this is getting cheesy.
Also, it shows determination. This is because Tom wanted to go to California no matter what happened! So many bad things got in the way of him trying to go the the state that almost everyone wants to go to. He was determined and knew it was the right thing even if other people told him otherwise, and believe me, they did! He thought everything would be better there so nothing was going to stop him! He had to sell a bunch of things he owned to be able to afford to go. It must have been a difficult thing, but sometimes you have to do difficult things to get what you want in life.
