The Catcher in the Rye- Required #8

Though, this book does not mention too many things about the history or what was going on at the time, I am going to try to think of some things that I could write this blog about.

I remember reading Holden saying how he would hate to be in the military or the army. That he would not really care about being in the war but he just thinks that everyone in there are jerks and he doesn't think he'd be able to deal with it. He said that he was happy that there was not a war going on, like a few years ago, so he wouldn't automatically have to be in the military. So this wasn't set during a war of any kind.

I don't really know what else besides that. School seems pretty much the same. He goes to an all boy boarding school and I remember hearing a lot about those seeming pretty popular in the forties/fifties, but that is just because there are a few movies and books and things like that that have mentioned them. There are still schools like that around, but I haven't heard of them that much.

The book never mentioned any extreme events like a war or anything like that. I think that Salinger was just influenced by the people around him in his life and the things he has experienced, and of course his thoughts in his head. Most of the book is just the thoughts of Holden Caulfield, after all. I don't think that any current events influenced the book too much.
