The Catcher in the Rye- The Little Things

To appreciate life, you really have to appreciate the little things in it. Like, being able to have a candy bar after a long day or hearing a song you like on the radio. When I was reading The Catcher in the Rye, I noticed Holden picked up on this.

Phoebe was asking Holden what he likes and he told her sitting there, just talking to her and having a good night. She didn't really like this answer, but I could not think of a better one to be honest. Some of my favorite moments in life are just conversations with people. I love my friends and they make the biggest difference, even if I am just having a five minute conversation with them. Something else is just having a little interaction with someone. Maybe you're walking down the street and someone you don't even know says "hi" with a smile as they walk past you. It can honestly make the biggest difference in your day. It could have been one of the worst days you've had in a while, but someone does a little gesture and it makes all the difference.

Holden got a little upset that Phoebe didn't like his answer. He was saying how a lot of people think like what she thought, and it made him upset. It is pretty lame that people think that whenever people ask something "what's your favorite thing?" it has to be a material item. That it can't be a feeling. Or when they ask "what's one of your favorite moments in life?" they want some supper extravagant event that happened to you. It can't be a conversation you've had. I can find this upsetting at times. Some of my favorite moments in life are conversations I have had or just looking at the stars. Hopefully, if other people think about it, then it would be the same for them too. I think that little things like that are definitely life changing.
