The Catcher in the Rye- Holden Caulfield

I feel like Holden is an interesting main character and is worthy of writing a blog about. I feel like Holden is such a contradicting character at times; I want to say he has a certain kind of personality trait or acts a specific way, but then there is something that cancels that out and shows something the complete opposite of what I was going for. It shows how much of a complex teenage boy he can be.

He says how he is really stupid and doesn't know anything, but to me he seems quite intelligent with all of his thoughts and ideas. Just because he isn't perfect at something or isn't good at it doesn't mean he is dumb. We all have things we're good and bad at. Maybe part if it is because he doesn't do well in school, but that is just because he doesn't really try. He is apathetic towards it, except for english, because he believes it is stupid or full of phonies or something along those lines.

He seems to be caring, but only to certain people, like Phoebe. Most people he gets really annoyed with, but those that he does like he cares about them a lot. And even some of the people that annoy him, he misses and he likes parts of them; like at the very end of the book he was saying how he misses everyone at Pencey even though he didn't like them at all whenever he was there. He tends to mess with people who annoy him too, but who doesn't like to do that every now and again?

Another weird thing about Holden that is weird is that he is both a huge liar and completely honest. Somewhere towards the beginning of the book he says how he is a huge liar and cannot help it! Sometimes he just lies because it has become just a huge habit to him. At the same time, though, he can be brutally honest and just say whatever he is thinking.
