Bullies take a big effect on people, maybe more than what the average person would think. I have never really dealt with people bullying on me, but I still know some of the things that it does to people and how it can effect their life on a long-term and short-term basis.
It can effect the person's mood and willingness. If someone is going somewhere where they know they will be bullied, they might not even show up. If they absolutely have to go there, then they will become very anxious and depressed about it. For all the bully knows, this can effect them for a life time, not just the time in the life where they were bullied. It can take them years to recover and they may need to get extra help through therapy or medication.
I feel bad for anyone who, whenever they wake up in the morning, all they are able to think about is that they can be physically or emotionally hurt. School is supposed to be a place of learning, but how can someone stay focused on school work when there is someone else (or multiple people) bringing them down in very hurtful ways. I would hate that feeling. Most people don't really want to go to school that much anyway, and the fact that someone is bullying them would make them not want to go even more. If I were being hardcore bullied by other people, I would probably skip school a lot and would definitely not be able to focus on school work.
People who see bullying happen, should try to do something to stop it. Some people bully other people if they are bullying someone else, which is kind of hypocritical and can cause the person to bully even more. Each person is different and will learn in different ways about how they should not bully people. I don't think there is one particular way to show that it is bad.
